A woman from North Carolina has purchased a single lottery ticket and won $1 million dollars, after trying to teach her husband a lesson that his frequent Powerball gambles are useless.
Last Saturday, Glenda Blackwell, 57, from Leicester, NC, was asked by her husband, Buddy, to purchase two Powerball tickets from the store.
Instead, she bought a $10 “Carolina Millions” scratch-off ticket for herself to “be ugly” and show him that he was wasting money – assuming she was going to lose.
“Sometimes I get aggravated with him, so I tell him, ‘You’re just wasting your money,'” Blackwell told WLOS News 13.
Then she scratched the ticket.
Blackwell won a million dollars, but collected $415,503 after taxes, deciding on the lump sum rather than 20 yearly payments of $50,000.
“I had to eat my words, but they were worth eating,” she said, laughing.
She plans on paying off the family home and land, and using the rest to help put her daughter and two granddaughters through college.
As for future lottery chances, the couple has decided to halt their luck. One and done!
