A beachgoer in Florida got an unexpected visitor while swimming in the ocean on Sunday.
Around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, the Boca Raton Fire Service received a 911 call regarding a 23-year-old woman who had been bitten by a nurse shark. The crazy thing was, the shark was still attached to her arm.
The shark had been killed by a bystander on the beach while they waited for emergency services to arrive, but it still refused to let go. Throughout the wait, the woman remained stable, according to reports from the scene. She was later transported to the hospital with the shark still attached to her arm.
According to the Associated Press, “the woman remained calm and there was a little blood.” She was released from the hospital later on Sunday afternoon.

“The shark wouldn’t give up,” Boca Raton resident Shlomo Jacob, who witnessed the scene, told the Washington Post. “It was barely breathing, but it wasn’t letting go of her arm, like it was stuck to her or something.”
Nurse sharks can grow up to seven-feet long, yet attacks on humans are pretty uncommon for the creature. The sharks have a tendency to bite on to their prey and clamp on, which may explain this unusual situation.
