When 7-year-old Caden Chin went to his school assembly he didn’t think much of it. However, the whole school was gathered just for him for a surprise he will never forget.
Caden Chin’s father, Sgt. Jason Chin, had been deployed in Kuwait and was planning to surprise his son at Pvt. Albert E. Thomason Elementary School.
“The last time I saw him was the beginning of first grade. He just started second grade,” Sgt. Chin shared with ABC News. “It was amazing yesterday. Everybody in the whole family was so exhausted and emotionally overwhelmed that everyone was in bed before 8 p.m. last night. It was great.”
As Sgt. Chin came in as the special guest, the 7-year-old bolted out of his seat to give his dad a giant hug.
“It was more than I had hoped for,” Chin explained. “We locked eyes and he came running and saying, ‘Daddy, daddy,’ and he yelled, ‘Woohoo,’ and whispered in my ear that he loved me. That was more than I even expected.”
The pair then recited the Pledge of Allegiance together at the assembly.
Chin was on quite the roll with his surprises that day. He surprised his wife at work before heading to see his son. Chin’s family knew he would coming home sometime this month, but no one knew the exact date.
Chin is now enjoying some much needed time with his family.
“As a member of the Army National Guard, Chin has no plans for deployment until the next rotation, which could take another four to five years,” shared ABC News.
Everyone seems to be happy that Chin is home.
“It feels excellent,” he said. “This morning I was still sleeping and the kids were opening the door and peeking in on me to make sure daddy was still there.”
