Talk about getting in the Halloween spirit!
Elephants at zoos all over the world are celebrating the spooky holiday by smashing pumpkins. The elephants use their tusks and trunks to go smash-crazy, creating a very satisfying video in the process.
Check out this 8,000-pound elephant from the Maryland Zoo in full-on smashing mode.
According to the Maryland Zoo, “this is the only time of year when there’s a real pumpkin feast!”
The tradition made its way across the pond to the elephants at the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire, England.
“The elephants approached the giant plot with some caution at first, but once they discovered how fun pumpkins are to squash, the pumpkins didn’t stand a chance!” the zoo shared. “We wanted to create something special for our youngest elephant, Elizabeth’s, first Halloween and it was certainly more of a treat than a trick, for her and her family.”
The elephants at the Oregon Zoo were treated to the giant pumpkins as well, with some weighing over 1,000 pounds each. The elephant family had a ball smashing the pumpkins, so much so that they even started to roll around in them!
