There is a little boy in Bicknall, Indiana making Christmas wishes come true for children who are less fortunate. 7-year-old Trenton Gardner has made it his mission to raise money to buy gifts for those in need of some holiday cheer.
For the last month, he has been wiping tables at the local McDonald’s restaurant. Afterwards, he took his hard-earned dollar bills and donated the money to Toys For Tots so they can have Christmas gifts under the tree.
His mom, Lindsey Gardner, told Your Daily Dish that she had no idea how far his good deeds would go. She also said that McDonald does not actually pay him.
“I haven’t been keeping tabs on an exact number but if I had to guestimate I’d say he made around $30,” she told Your Daily Dish. “Me and his dad and his Grandpa pay him a dollar or two every day he goes in there and waits on tables. Customers will stop and ask him, ‘what is a seven year-old doing working in a McDonald’s for?’ and he’ll tell them what he’s doing. They just think it’s so cool and they give him tips. He goes to the dollar store and bought a toy and put it in the Toys For Tots bin or he would put it in the Salvation Army bucket with the guys out there jingling the bells.”
McDonald’s General Manager Rhonda Butler said that when he asked for a job, they told him he was too young. Determined, he persevered until they agreed to make him an ‘honorary employee.’
“Every time he came in he asked, ‘am I hired? Do I get a job? Can I start?’ He’s like, ‘I can make food. I can do that,’” Butler told Indiana television station WTHI-TV
Cleaning tables is not a chore for the boy as he instinctively knows he’s helping others.
“It’s just how it goes,” he said. “You do a job and it buys you a lot so that way you can get other kids Toys For Tots.”
“He’s getting exactly what he wanted [for Christmas],” his mom told Your Daily Dish. “He is getting a bike, a nerf gun and a couple of other little toys that’s he’s been asking for. He was like, ‘am I gonna be on the nice list or am I gonna be on the naughty list?’!”
Considering he hasn’t done anything naughty at all, Trenton is safely on the nice list. His mother concluded, “We’re so proud of him. I don’t know where me and his dad went with this. We’re just so glad that we raised him up this way. If he’s willing to do this at 7, I can only imagine what he does when he gets older.”
