Tom Hanks Channels Inner Hero for Brand New Trailer for ‘Sully’

The chilling story of the “Miracle on the Hudson” is coming to the big screen.

Tom Hanks plays American pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger who miraculously landed US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River when both engines stopped working after being damaged by a flock of geese shortly after takeoff. The film is based on the book Highest Duty, written by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.

The film tells the story of the landing on the Hudson and the aftermath Sullenberger faced with his decisions. The official synopsis reads:

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

Aaron Eckhart joins Hanks on the big screen playing copilot Jeffery Skiles in the film directed by Clint Eastwood. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Eckhart shared just how committed Hanks was to playing Sully and how he really embodied the Captain.

“He really embodied him, just physically with his hair, and the mustache,” Eckhart shared. “He started holding himself straight like Sully did, and his economy of speech, and all of that sort of stuff that really nailed the precision of Captain Sullenberger. It was really impressive.”
