It hasn’t been easy being a Republican in Congress recently due to the town halls filled with angry constituents who are demanding that their representatives stand up to President Trump. Sen. Tom Cotton found that out the hard way on Wednesday night when a 7-year-old boy grilled him.
In a packed auditorium in Springdale, Arkansas, Cotton was about to wrap up a boisterous town hall filled with testy questions and loud boos from frustrated constituents. Right before he left for the evening, Cotton received one final question from a 7-year-old boy named Toby.
Cotton was expecting to receive a softball question from the boy. Instead, the adorable child asked the 39-year-old senator about one of the most important issues of the night.
“Donald Trump thinks a wall is more important than kids games and stuff. But to kids, it’s more important,” Toby said. “And Donald Trump makes Mexicans not important to people who are in Arkansas who like Mexicans. Like me, my Grandma and all my people. And he’s deleting all of the parks and PBS Kids just to make a wall. He shouldn’t do that. He shouldn’t do all that stuff for just a wall.”
Toby received a lively round of applause from the hundreds of people in attendance. And online, Toby became somewhat of a popular trend with the hashtag #Toby4President.
This kid has more sense than our president. Good job, #toby4president. Mom & Dad, keep up the good work. https://t.co/UqG7OZIRjn

The White House recently indicated that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (PBS) would be cut from the federal budget to help pay for new expenses like the U.S.-Mexico border wall. The issue is so complicated that even Sen. Tom Cotton could not give Toby a straight answer at the town hall.
After the event, Toby explained to Little Rock television station KATV about why he spoke out.
“Donald Trump was deleting PBS Kids just to build a wall because he doesn’t like Mexicans,” he said.
