Three people were arrested with multiple loaded weapons trying to enter the Holland Tunnel early Tuesday morning.
The three people – two men in their 50s and one women in her 20s – were stopped on the New Jersey side of the tunnel during morning rush hour traffic. The van was pulled over for a routine traffic stop, with police checking on a cracked windshield near the toll plaza.
Authorities have reported the suspects to have loaded guns, knives, and ballistic vests in their possession. The guns included both handguns and long-ranged weapons. The police also found a camouflage helmet and night goggles.
According to authorities, the suspects are known “gun enthusiasts” and have no connection to terrorism. They believe the group might be from Pennsylvania, where some of these items are legal. Reports found that they were going to Queens “to try to save a friend who is on heroin and being held against her will.” The police are now looking for the victim in Queens.
The investigation is ongoing.
