Kansas State University student Hunter Jobbins became “big (candy) man” on campus after being gifted 6,500 chocolate bars from Kit Kat. Jobbins, who says on his Twitter page that he’s not a “big fan of handshakes,” has been giving out plenty of those and lots of candy since his story became viral. The trusting freshman left his car unlocked with a tempting Kit Kat sitting in his cup holder. He took to Twitter the day before Halloween — the biggest candy pay day of the year — to report that the chocolate bar was stolen from his car.
“Left my car for maybe 15 minutes in front of the dorms and I come back to this. College, man,” he tweeted.
For some reason the culprit felt compelled to leave behind a note scribbled on a napkin which read, “Saw Kit Kat in your cup holder. I love Kit Kats so I checked your door and it was unlocked. Did not take anything other than the Kit Kat. I am sorry and hungry.”

Jobbins’ tweet which received over 180,000 retweets and 490 likes caught the attention of some savvy social media folks at The Hershey Company, the makers of the dual crispy treat who tweeted a reply, “Who steals someones Kit Kat?! WHO DOES THAT?! Shoot us a DM and we’ll replace it for you.”

When another follower tweeted that he too was the victim of a Kit Kat burglary, they tweeted back, “WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE WORLD?!”
The candy company made good on Thursday delivering almost a lifetime supply of the wafer chocolate bars that they stuffed inside Jobbins’ Toyota Camry which were given away on the front lawn of the college campus.
K-State Alumni Association posted this video on Twitter, which showed Jobbins’ enthusiastic chocolate-lover classmates lined up in droves for the sweet treat – this time with his permission. The tweet said, “Give ’em a break! Now everyone can have their very own #KitKat from @jabbins car!”

The local college newspaper, The Collegian got the scoop on the origins of the stolen candy. According to Jobbins’ parents who live in Manhattan, Hunter had been visiting for the weekend when he took a Twix and a Kit Kat for replenishment for his long journey back to school. They both saw the tweet and his Dad’s first concerned response was in a text, “Hunter, you need to lock your car.”
Good parenting advice aside, Jobbins’ negligence has made him a social media star. With plenty of Kit Kats left over from the giveaway, he wishes the candy thief would come forward to share the spotlight and his savory stash. He told The Collegian, “If the Kit Kat thief is reading this or keeping up with this, I would love for you to come and tell me, and I’ll give you a big hug, a thank you and a lot of Kit Kats.”
If anyone can relate, the original candy man can!
