Man Ignores Impending Storm and Continues to Mow His Lawn in Now Viral Photo
Sometimes it is best to stay calm, just ask Theunis Wessels.
Theunis Wessels was in the middle of mowing his lawn when an alarming storm and tornado combination started to come his way. However, Wessels was determined to finish the task at hand, making for an incredibly viral photo.
Wessels’ wife, Cecilia, told the BBC that the storm was about 1.25 miles away and was much further than the photo made it appear. She also added that her husband was “fully aware” of the tornado and “wasn’t worried at all.”
In fact, it seems that Wessels’ daughter was the most concerned. Cecilia Wessels was sleeping while the storm was approaching and was hastily woken up by her daughter who saw the impending twister.
“My daughter was the most upset, saying ‘Mum, what we gonna do?'” Cecilia Wessels told BBC.
Cecilia Wessels then rushed out to inform her husband and he insisted that he was fine.
“It seems that most people here mow before the rain comes, so he thought he would do that, and, well, ended up famous,” Cecilia Wessels told BuzzFeed. “It was just a great day to mow the lawn.”
The Wessels also recently attended a seminar about storm chasing, giving her husband a bit of confidence in the situation.
Cecilia Wessels took the picture to share with her family in South Africa and never expected it to get a viral reaction. She posted the photo to Facebook with the caption “my beast mowing the lawn with a breeze in his hair.”
While the storm seems pretty dangerous in the photo, it turned out to be harmless. It moved east and was gone quickly after it appeared.
