When it comes to grassroots support, Bernie Sanders has had more success than even current President Barack Obama at the same point in his first presidential campaign, according to the Vermont Senator and FCC disclosure records.
Doubters of Sanders’ popularity have been proven wrong once again as Sanders took to his own SandersForPresident Reddit sub-thread to announce the achievement on Wednesday. Prior to the third quarter reporting deadline, Sanders wrote “We’ve just reached our goal of one million online contributions. There’s still 12 hours to send a powerful message about the strength of our movement before tonight’s midnight ET deadline. Contribute $3 today to boost our numbers.”
The Sanders campaign has already received attention for it’s large amounts of small donations. It was announced in July that the average contribution to the campaign was just $33.51 and that 99 percent of the donations were less than $250.
Clinton's $28 million haul was very labor intensive. 58 personally headlined fundraisers, over a dozen in the last week.

All of Sanders’ success is worrisome for Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. She has had to work harder than ever for her campaign donations, attending 58 fundraisers this quarter in contrast to Sanders, who attended 7. Hillary is losing steam, having to work hard for her money, while, as Sanders gains attention, his donations are pouring in online.
Even Robert Reich, Secretary of Labor under former President Bill Clinton, is “feeling the Bern!”
In a recent interview with journalist Amy Goodman, Reich said that he thinks that Bernie is ”telling the truth, and I think people are responding with extraordinary enthusiasm, even many conservatives and Republicans I meet, to a truth teller.”
Will Sanders’ honesty and liberal views earn him the Democratic bid? Give your opinion in the comments below.
