“It’s so reassuring to know there are professors out there like this.”
A math professor convinced a student to come to class a week after the student had her first child and held the baby during the whole class – still teaching.
Dr. Josie Ryan, who teaches Real Analysis at the University of Southern California, became familiar with her student, Sarah Thompson, and Thompson’s hectic life of working and attending class during her pregnancy.
Thompson returned to class just a week after birthing her son, Isaiah, because Ryan “begged” her to, even showing her where she can breastfeed when necessary.
“The world needs more of these teachers!” wrote Thompson to Facebook page Love What Matters.
The first time Thompson brought her son to class, Ryan held him the entire time and continued teaching.
“I am in a perfect world when I am learning math in college with my baby right next to me or in my teachers (sic) arms.”
And the baby continues to attend class with mom; he doesn’t disrupt the students, except for when he induces massive giggling with the occasional fart (probably).
