Stray Kitten Crashes Live Newscast
A stray kitten adorably crashed a live Michigan newscast Monday morning. The orange tabby made his presence known when he began loudly meowing during a broadcast by WXYZ reporter Nima Shaffe. Instead of simply ignoring the noise, Shaffe picked the animal up and introduced it to the viewing audience.
After putting the kitten on air, Shaffe said, “He’s going to be our new mascot. He greeted photojournalist Andy Zaremba and I here in the parking lot and he’s been pretty vocal. He tried to take over my time and he’s been hanging out underneath our truck here and so we’ve taken him under our wing.”
Shaffe went on to jokingly discuss what would happen to the kitten.
“We’ve just been hanging out and he’s kind of taken off. He’s kind of a big hit on social media this morning. We’ve got alley cats that watch us and house cats that watch us, and now we have parking lot cats. I had to talk the sheriff out of ticketing him. The charge would have been loitering.”

Following her (Shaffe was mistaken in his initial comments on the animal’s gender) fifteen minutes of fame, the kitten was taken in by the Huron Valley Humane Society. The organization’s marketing director Wendy Welch said the cat, nicknamed “Lucky Seven” after the television station, would need some time before she was put up for adoption.
“She’s already received some medication, de-wormer and she’s going to spend some time in foster care,” said Welch. “We have a team of loving volunteers that participate in our foster care program so she can go home with someone for that TLC as she gets bigger.”
