See The First Action-Packed Trailer For ‘Star Trek Beyond’
Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for their highly anticipated upcoming film Star Trek Beyond. The third of the so-called “Nu-Trek” trilogy, and thirteenth film in the overall franchise, Beyond is being released in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the original series’ 1966 television debut.
Like it’s J.J. Abrams directed predecessors, Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), the trailer for the Justin Lin (Fast and The Furious franchise) directed Star Trek Beyond puts a heavy emphasis on action, with little revealed about the film’s plot. Set to the Beastie Boys hit “Sabotage,” the 90 second spot gives glimpses of a massive space battle that suggests the destruction of the starship Enterprise, the crew seemingly captured on an alien world, and Captain Kirk driving around on a motorcycle.
However the trailer doesn’t have any views of Idris Alba’s confirmed role as the film’s still unidentified antagonist, nor does it reveal anything about the aliens we do see or why they’ve taken the crew of the Enterprise prisoner.
Star Trek Beyond stars returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and new additions Elba and Sofia Boutella.
The film, directed by Justin Lin from a script by Pegg and Doug Jung, is scheduled for release on July 22, 2016, kickstarting a celebration of Star Trek‘s 50th Anniversary that’s also set to include the debut of a new online-only series in 2017.
