South Korea Launches Ice Cream Bar That Promises to Cure Hangovers
A chain of convenience stores in South Korea is claiming to have found the cure to fixing a hangover!
The Gyeondyo-bar is an ice cream bar that is said to fix your hangover while you enjoy the cold treat.
According to Reuters, “the Gyeondyo-bar is a grapefruit-flavored treat that contains Japanese raisin tree fruit juice.” The juice from the fruit was tested in a study and showed improvements in rats who had hangovers. Apparently the juice has been used in Asia for hundreds of years to help cure hangovers.
The English name of the bar translates to “hang in there.”
“[The name] expresses the hardships of employees who have to suffer a working day after heavy drinking, as well as to provide comfort to those who have to come to work early after frequent nights of drinking,” Withme FS, the store who sells the bar, said in a statement to Reuters.
South Korea is known for consuming the most alcohol in all of Asia, making hangover cures a big business in South Korea. All together the business generates about $126 million annually. The industry sells pill, beverages, and even “cosmetics for women who want to keep their skin soft after a boozy night.”
“Hangover Soup” is also a popular staple in most Korean restaurants.
The grapefruit-flavored dessert officially goes on sale in South Korea on Friday (and hopefully in the U.S. soon).
