Six Flags and Samsung are partnering together to take you on the ultimate ride.
Starting later this month, adrenaline junkies in Texas, Georgia, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, and Quebec will have the opportunity to take their amusement park experience to the next level and ride one of nine roller coasters that will be equipped with Samsung Gear VR headsets.
Instead of riders seeing the standard steal beams, they will instead be transported to virtual worlds where they are fighting aliens in space or flying beside Superman in Metropolis. On some of the coasters, passengers will even be given the opportunity to fight back by firing virtual weapons.
“This transforms the modern roller coaster into a totally new, one-of-a-kind sensorial experience — powered by technology,” Marc Mathieu, CMO of Samsung Electronics America, explained in a statement.
Technology similar to this has already appeared in Germany at Europa Park. During a ride on The Alpenexpress VR-RIDE, passengers travel though an animated 3D world that “perfectly matches the actual roller coaster track.”
“This remarkable technology is a definite game-changer for theme park rides and represents everything our brand stands for—delivering the most thrilling and innovative rides and attractions in the world,” said John Duffey, Six Flags President and CEO.
