Rogue One: A Star Wars Story finally has a new trailer. The second spot for the highly anticipated spin-off installment of the long-running film franchise premiered during NBC’s Olympic coverage Thursday night.
The Gareth Edwards-directed film takes place between episodes three and four of the saga, and focuses on the previously only-alluded-to events that led to the heroic Rebellion stealing the plans for the Empire’s Death Star space station.

The new trailer uses familiar sets, ships, and other iconography to firmly set the film during the Original Trilogy era, and gives some brief spotlight moments to characters played by Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, and Alan Tudyk as the droid K-2SO.
Even with all that, the highlight moment of the trailer comes at its end when Darth Vader very briefly appears. The iconic villain had long been rumored to appear in Rogue One, and his visage on merchandise and other tie-ins made it seem like a certainty before Entertainment Weekly confirmed the character would return with his iconic voice being provided again by James Earl Jones.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which stars Jones, Whitaker, Tyduck, Yen, Jiang Wen, Ben Mendalson, Riz Ahmed, and Diego Luna, is scheduled for release on December 16.
