This is a real life story that can give the movie Cast Away a run for its money.
The TV crew of Animal Planet’s River Monsters unexpectedly captured on camera an island castaway off the Australian coast while filming an episode this past November. The show’s director, Stephen Shearman, told Inside Edtion that the man was “preparing to die and meet his maker.”
The episode, “Death Down Under,” which aired last week, showed the uninhabited island where they saw a man “running out of a cave, waving his arms out.”
“We, first of all, saw a cooler on the rocks, and then one of us spotted, there’s somebody there,” River Monster host Jeremy Wade stated. “He immediately came down to the water and he was yelling out, ‘Give me something to drink, give me something to drink.”
The man, who has been identified as a local fisherman named Termini, said that he got lost after leaving his boat looking for oysters. It is believed that Termini was stranded on the island for 60 hours. He only suffered from dehydration and heat stroke.
Termini was taken back to civilization and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he since made a full recovery.
