This Retirement Home for Dogs Is a Wonderful Thing

Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary is rescuing aging dogs from being put down one doggie geezer at a time. Founded by Michael and Zina Goodin, the sanctuary only focuses on dogs around 10 years or older, and yes, it’s basically a retirement home for dogs.
The couple says in a post for charity organization Dog Art for Old Friends, that as the couple was aging, they were looking for something to do with their time. After taking in one old dog who needed somewhere to spend his final years, “we started to see a need for what was being called at that time a ‘long term’ foster for senior dogs.”
The sanctuary now has a host of senior dogs with a wide array of disabilities. Some are blind, deaf, or both. Because of their current or expected health problems, old dogs face a much higher chance of being euthanized.
However, the Goodins know how awesome old dogs can be. Unlike their flamboyant younger counterparts, old dogs like to just sit and relax. Their calm nature makes them perfect companions for older people as well.
Take a look at the sanctuary and some these dogs’ golden years.
