The pair were found in a California backyard and were taken to Sacramento’s SPCA, where veterinarians diagnosed the felines with ulcers in their eyes.
To save the pair’s eyesight, medical staff drew blood from Jemmie. They could have drawn blood from a cat, but the medical team decided to take blood from Jemmie since she is a much larger animal.
Jemmie’s blood was crucial in producing a serum for the kittens. Since this wasn’t a blood transfusion, mixing her blood with the kittens didn’t complicate the process.
The kittens are expected to make a full recovery.
As for Jemmie, she has been around the kittens during the recovery process.
According to owner Sarah Varanini, Jemmie cuddles, plays and licks the felines.
“She’s giving back to kittens and there’s nothing she loves more in life than kittens, so I know she would love to do it if she could talk,” Varanini stated to UPI.
Our story of our donor dog is being spread far and wide, and even reached the HuffPost today!…
