Radiohead’s Catalogue Returns to Spotify
Almost all of Radiohead’s’s discography has been made available to stream on Spotify.
The British rockers, fronted by Thom Yorke, pulled most of their material from online platforms earlier this year while their back catalog was transferred from Parlophone to XL Recordings.
However the band’s music slowly began returning to the internet in the following months, with albums In Rainbows and latest release A Moon Shaped Pool making appearances in June.
Now, eagle-eyed fans have discovered all of Radiohead’s offerings are available on Spotify, apart from a few small exceptions such as the EMI/Capitol Records-curated collector’s editions, which didn’t have the group’s participation.
The news was posted on Radiohead’s subreddit, with users sharing their delight at being able to listen to nearly all of their idols’ work.
“That’s everything they’ve ever made on Spotify now right? “Ill Wind” is all that’s left I think,” one person wrote, while another joked: “Would be hilarious if “Ill Wind” came on next Friday then Sunday the whole catalog disappeared like all Thoms (sic) solo stuff. I would be very upset but would also see the funny side,” referring to Yorke pulling his music from Spotify in 2013.
Explaining his decision on Twitter at the time, the musician said: “Make no mistake, new artists you discover on Spotify will not get paid. Meanwhile shareholders will shortly be rolling in it. Simples.”
He also hit back at people dubbing his move as pointless, insisting he’s standing up for fellow musicians who don’t benefit from the service.
Another artist who previously acted in a similar way was Taylor Swift, who pulled her music from Spotify in 2014. She’s since signed a deal with Apple Music after writing a strongly worded letter to the company blasting for streaming music for free.
