In the push to give charity to the less fortunate during the holiday season, a radio station in Philadelphia was able to collect a substantial about of food and money for the hungry.
The 93.3 WMMR Rocks!’s Camp Out for Hunger 2016 event collected over 683 tons of non-perishable food items and raised about $75,000 in just five days. This event surpassed last year’s total of 580 tons of food.
The effort shows the true impact a community can make when working together.
“I wanted to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every person who found the time to contribute, volunteer or support this year’s Preston and Steve Camp Out for Hunger,” said Preston Elliot, co-host of the Preston & Steve Show. “And it was soooo much fun!”
The event, which is apparently the largest food drive in the country, even featured live performances from Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews Band and rock band Shinedown.
The 1,367,384 pounds of food went to Philabundance, a non-profit organization aimed at driving hunger out of local communities and ultimately preventing men, women and children from going hungry.
