In case you didn’t know, the often-maligned, yet still holding a cult status among devout fans Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series is getting a film reboot next year, and on Thursday, Entertainment Weekly unveiled the first exclusive look at the heroes’ new costumes – which honestly bear a striking resemblance to one of the movie industry’s most recognizable heroes.
EW and the film’s director, Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), released the first official image of the teenagers’ new battle suits, and if you think you recognize these suits, it’s probably because they’re highly reminiscent of the suit Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) wears in the fan-favorite Iron Man and Avengers movies, right down to the glowing “heart” chamber on the chest.
Israelite had this to say about updating the look for a new generation:
“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis. These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”
After the reveal, many took to social media to express their ire (and occasional) delight.
