Passengers on board Quantas Flight QF93 heard the all too familiar, “Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking,” at the start of their journey from Australia to South America. What they didn’t expect was Captain Dooley Ellis had a very special announcement to make – one that he never made before in his 30-year career. The entire scene was captured on camera.
After settling into their cruising altitude of 33,000 feet he introduced a very special passenger, his girlfriend Anna.
The video cuts to an embarrassed Anna as the Captain continued from the cockpit, “She’s traveling back to South America now to visit her family and I want to make sure she comes back to me in Australia.”
As he spoke to the captive audience, Ellis, who obviously brushed up on his Spanish for the occasion, proposed over the intercom system, “Anna, Quieres casarte conmigo?,” which he translated for all on board to, “Will you marry me?”
Apparently it was a smooth flight as the Captain was able to unfasten his seat belt and make his way down the aisle carrying a bouquet of red roses to Anna. Kneeling down on one knee, he presented an engagement ring to her delight.
She said, “Yes!”
The newly affianced couple made their way to the front of the plane where he placed the ring on her finger.
Qantas Airlines captured the in-flight video which Good Morning America shared on their Facebook page. It received 147,000 views and over 3,000 likes and 297 shares with mixed reviews.
One person commented, “Okay she said yes, now go back to the cockpit and finish flying the bleeping plane.” While another user observed, “Pretty nice seats on Qantas.”
