A mother from North Carolina is already embracing the hilarity of post-birth recovery and addressing a side not normally seen after a baby is born.
Amanda Bacon shared a hilarious photo on Facebook on Wednesday, showing off the less glamorous side of childbirth recovery. The photo shows Bacon from her backside only wearing an adult diaper after she gave birth to her son on May 27.
“This is motherhood; it’s raw, stunning, messy and freaking hilarious all rolled into one,” Bacon captioned the photo.
After sharing the amusing photo, Bacon switched gears and addressed the “realities of postpartum life” that are often ignored.
“Having a baby is a beautiful experience, and the realities of postpartum life aren’t spoken enough about,” Bacon shared. “We all should try and educate, empower and embrace every aspect of childbirth, including moments like this. And do it while having a sense of humor. Nothing says welcome to motherhood like an adorable squishy baby, and a giant mom diaper.”
The photo has been shared over 119,00 times and has over 478,000 likes and reactions (as of press time).
One Facebook user commented, “Thank you for being real, raw and authentic!”
Another praised Bacon sharing, “I love this!!! So real and brave of you to post. Tired of everyone’s fake glamour shots.”
Bacon told The Huffington Post that she “hesitated to share the photo at first.”
“Why feel ashamed over something that’s natural?” she said. “It’s just not spoken enough about, and I figured since the picture is both hilarious and honest, I’d go for it. Let other women know it’s normal, beautiful, and to find humor throughout the whole experience.”
Bacon, who is now adjusting to life as a mother of two, had some advice for other new mothers.
“Laugh at yourself, don’t take life too seriously. Birth is beautiful. Sometimes it’s messy, but it’s just something we should appreciate all aspects of,” she said.
