The murder case of Martin Duram just took a startling turn.
Duram, 45, was shot and killed in his Michigan home last spring, according to Wood TV, and it seems his pet African grey parrot may have witnessed the murder.
In a video, the parrot is recorded shouting, “Don’t f***ing shoot,” and it sounds eerily similar to a human male.
Could it be mimicking Duram in his last moments of life?
Duram’s parents think so and are now urging the police to use the video as evidence in his case.
Wood TV also reports that police originally thought it to be a double-murder, as they found his wife, Glenna, also in the home with a gunshot wound to the head. However, Glenna did not die from her wound and is now considered a suspect. They believe she may have tried to commit a murder-suicide.
Glenna has since recovered and told police, “I know for a fact I didn’t kill my husband,” according to Wood TV.
She also left three suicide notes – one to her husband, and two to each of her children.
But it’s the bird that raises the most curiosity.
Duram’s parents said they believe it was there and it remembers.
“That bird picks up everything and anything, and it’s got the filthiest mouth around,” Duram’s mother said.
They also say that it not only mimics their son, but his wife as well – switching voices as if reciting an argument.
Wood TV also reports that the owner of Casa la Parrot, a pet store in Grand Rapids, said it’s possible for African grey parrots to mimic both male and female voices.
“It’s definitely an argument between a man and a woman,” she said. “In my mind, it’s something that he’s heard, definitely heard before. And if it’s fresh in his mind, he might even say it more now.”
