We all know that Australia is home to many creatures that would love nothing more than to feast on your flesh. However, to see one of these deadly creatures in action is a whole new experience.
Jason Womal, from Coppabella in Queensland, was on his way to work in the early morning when his neighbor asked him if he wanted to “see something cool.” Womal wrote on his Facebook page that he replied, “Hell yeah,” and went over to his neighbor’s house. Once there, he caught on film something that will not only amaze you, but terrify and haunt your nightmares for all eternity.
The two gents watched as a huntsman spider carried a full-size dead mouse across a fridge.
Watch his video below and be warned, it’s gross.
A stunned spectator can be overheard in the video saying, “What’s he gonna do with him? Man that is so cool,” much to the contrary of Facebook commenters expressing their disgust toward the creature.
One person wrote, “Next it will be eating babies,” while another said, “F**k this!”
The post has been shared over 164,000 times and has over 10 million views (as of press).
As terrifying as this spider is, though, they are actually not known to be harmful to humans. They usually paralyze their prey with venom, but arachnid expert Helen Smith revealed to the Guardian it’s more likely the mouse was already dead.
“I would be very surprised if a huntsman would attack a mouse and even if it did, that the venom would be sufficient to kill it fast enough for the spider to still have hold of it,” she told the Guardian.
According to Wikipedia, “Huntsman spiders are widely considered beneficial because they feed on insect pests such as cockroaches and crickets.”
Luckily, Womal and his neighbor realized that as well. In a later post, Womal said that the spider, which they named Hermie, is alive and well and has been “adopted” by them.
He wrote: “Ok guys so just letting you all know that the spider is fine. We have named him Hermie, we have adopted him and he is now running his own extermination business out of our town Coppabella. Oh (sic) and he is now paying rent. Lol.”
Here’s to hoping Hermie’s business takes off and he lives a long and productive life!
