A New Hampshire police officer showed that random acts of kindness could still exist by saving a child’s birthday party.
According to Fox News, Michael Kotsonis was called into an Ocean State Job Lot for a routine shoplifting investigation. During the investigation, Kotsonis learned that the woman had stolen cake mix, Crisco and frosting. Kotsonis was later able to track down the woman from surveillance. Kotsonis spoke with the woman and learned she had stolen the items to make a cake for her daughter’s birthday.
Kotsonis knew something had to be done about the unfortunate situation. “I’m not going to take away a kid’s birthday cake,” he told Seacoast Online. “I ended up bringing it back to the mother.”
Kotsonis later returned to the store and purchased the ingredients needed for the cake and gave the items back.
Assistant Store Manager Dan Rose told CBS Boston “it wasn’t something he expected from anybody. For somebody to pay for someone else’s stuff is just amazing,” Rose said. “It’s above and beyond.”
Fellow officers are saying this is the typical behavior for the 19-year veteran cop.
“Mike’s compassion took over. He used discretion and I guarantee the kids were happy,” acting Deputy Police Chief Frank Warchol told to Seacoast Online. “If you can help someone out,” he said, “you do.”
The woman was not arrested.
