A new invention could be a gamechanger in the world of solar energy.
Saule Technologies has invented a material that can turn any surface into a solar panel. The material is made out of “perovskites,” a calcium titanium oxide mineral. It is considered to be “great absorbers of light.”
According to their website, perovskites are more efficient at absorbing light than silicon and is cheaper and flexible.
The perovskites material is lightweight and even works with artificial sources of light.
Saule Technologies co-owner Artur Kupczunas discussed how the material can be used by normal consumers.
“You can put it directly to the windows because we can make semi-transparent cells. You can put it in the applications that weren’t able to put regular silicon-based solar cells,” Kupczunas stated.
You can check out the video of the invention below showing the material being added to a roof and even cellphones. Imagine, your cell is it’s own solar power conductor.
