After months of teases, plot titbits, and photo stills, Disney has finally released the first full-length trailer for the highly anticipated live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
The trailer hits many of the story’s familiar beats, showing parts of the capture of Belle’s (Emma Watson) father Maurice (Kevin Kline) by the Beast (Dan Stevens), her trading places with him, the titular characters falling in love, and the villainous Gaston (Luke Evans) leading a mob to the Beast’s castle. Along the way, the trailer also shows off some of the “enchanted objects” that inhabit the castle, including Ewan McGregor’s Lumière, Ian McKellen’s Cogsworth, and Emma Thompson’s Mrs. Potts.
One element missing from the trailer are any of the film’s songs like “Be Our Guest” or “Belle.” The only music is an orchestral version of “Beauty and the Beast” and the original film’s overture. It seems Disney is keeping the 2017 film’s versions of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken’s iconic songs (written for the 1991 animated blockbuster and later used in the long-running broadway show) under wraps for now.
Beauty and the Beast stars the aforementioned Watson, Stevens, Evans, Kline, McKellen, McGregor and Thompson, as well as Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Audra McDonald, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The film is scheduled for release on March 17, 2017.
