N.W.A., Deep Purple To Be Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
Drumroll please! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2016 inductees on Thursday morning. N.W.A, Cheap Trick, Chicago, Steve Miller and Deep Purple walked away with the top honor this year to round out the 31st class of inductees.
Other nominees included Janet Jackson, The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails and The Spinners. Artists are only eligible for a nomination 25 years after the release of their first recording. More than 800 members of the Hall’s voting committee, which includes artist, historians, and music industry members, chose the group of nominees.

N.W.A has been on the short list for the honor for the past three years, but the group’s biopic, Straight Outta Compton helped to bring them back into the spotlight.
“So many people were opinionated about N.W.A. I think everyone now at this point, no matter how you feel about us, understands what the group actually did and what it means to modern music. I think the movie helped to get people to remember that,” Ice Cube shared during an interview with Rolling Stone.
Deep Purple, formed in England, climbed the charts with their classic records including Smoke On the Water and Woman From Tokyo.
Cheap Trick found success in Japan before finding a following in the states. Together the group has toured for four-decades.
Chicago burst into the music scene during the 1960’s producing major hits such as “25 or 6 to 4” and “If You Leave Me Now.”
Steve Miller was able to cross genres with his most popular albums The Joker, Abracadabra, and Jet Airliner.
The 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Barclay’s Center in New York on April 8.
