Heather Clark went through the hardest time of her life when her son, Lukas, died at 7 months old from alleged abuse from a non-family member, according to People. Little did Clark know that four years later she would once again hear the beat of her son’s heart.
“The sound was so strong,” said Clark. “I could feel him there with me.”
After Lukas died, Clark made the difficult decision to donate her son’s organs. “I knew I couldn’t do anything with his organs once he passed away, so I thought why not save someone else’s life,” she told People.
And save a life she did. Just four years later, Clark heard the sound of her son’s beating heart in 4-year-old Jordan Drake.
Drake needed a heart transplant due to a condition called mitral valve regurgitation. Her mother, Esther Gonzalez, had all but given up hope and didn’t think her daughter would survive. Then she got word a transplant was on the way.
Since the donation was anonymous, Gonzalez and Clark had to seek alternative routes to try and find each other. They both took to social media in attempts to locate the other parent, until finally the two moms connected through a Facebook message on Thanksgiving Day in 2015.
Clark visited the Phoenix family where she met Gonzalez and the “happiest and most energetic little girl.”
Clark embraces Gonzalez in the video and you can hear her saying, “Thank you, thank you.”
Gonzalez told People, “Heather was going through the most pain and sadness of her life and she was brave and selfless to think of others at that time. She made that insanely hard decision, and we are so thankful to her and her son.”
The emotional moment when Clark takes the stethoscope and listens to her son’s heart beating inside Drake’s body is like nothing else.
The two moms plan to keep in touch and spread the word on how important organ donation is.
