Sometimes surprises don’t always go as planned. Just ask 18-year-old McKenna Pilling.
Pilling, a student from New York, was planning to move out of her dorm from Utah State University once the semester was finished. Before she was scheduled to move out, her mother, Deanna, decided to surprise her. Mrs. Pilling arrived at her daughter’s room and found no one was inside. After a few minutes of waiting, she decided to lay down on the empty bed and sent her daughter a selfie. A cute gesture, but it turned out McKenna was in her own room and Mrs. Pilling was laying in a stranger’s bed.
“She came to surprise me from New York City to help clean out my dorm and apparently walked in the wrong dorm,” Pilling shared with BuzzFeed News. “No one was in there so she laid down for five minutes in the wrong bed and decided to send me a picture as a surprise.”

Pilling received the picture and she instantly knew her mom was in the wrong room because of the bed. Pilling shared that her mom “immediately felt sick to her stomach and ran out of the room.”
Pilling decided to tweet out the text exchange on her Twitter where the mix-up quickly went viral. As of Monday, the tweet has been shared 12,000 times and has over 27,000 likes.
“My intention was only for family and friends to see, hence the caption, ‘Momma Pilling at it again,’ because the people I know know her as ‘Momma Pilling,’” Pilling explained. “But once it got bigger and bigger we just couldn’t stop laughing because it was so unexpected.”
Pilling’s mother was able to laugh off the mishap, however she does have one regret.
“Every time I refresh my feed more retweets/favorites pop up, and now all my mom has to say is, ‘I wish I would’ve taken a better picture,’” Pilling said.
