Plagiarism is described as “an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author’s work as one’s own, as by not crediting the original author.”
If this is to be taken as fact, then Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has some explaining to do.
In last night’s Republican National Convention, the proposed First Lady of the Republican Party, Melania Trump, glittered on stage in more ways than one. Unfortunately for her, and her husband’s entire campaign, her memorable speech is now littered with asterisks. After all, it is the year 2016, where nothing can be hidden, and such was the case last night once listeners caught wind of the similarities between Melania Trump’s speech, and Michelle Obama’s speech back at the 2008 Democratic Convention.
Melania must’ve liked Michelle Obama’s 2008 Convention speech, since she plagiarized it.#GOPConvention #RNCinCLE pic.twitter.com/vGmsG9KFx3

Check out the video below for an in-depth look at the speeches, side by side:
Perhaps not identical, but its clearly obvious that certain parts of Melania Trump’s speech were ripped from Obama’s. Whether this was intentional or not remains to be seen, as Trump’s campaign manager is already denying claims of plagiarism.
Now, the real issue comes in the preparation. Everyone is aware of the preparation that goes into the convention and political campaigns, right down to the speeches, so if this is true, are we to believe that none of Trump’s advisers caught these similarities (or perhaps worse, approved them)?
Was Trump’s wife set up for failure? Does this campaign even have any idea what its doing (Stephen Colbert doesn’t seem to think so)? These and more questions are being asked as this video and news continues to send shock waves through the interwebs.
Which makes this tweet from 2012 regarding another of Michelle’s speeches even more special:
Interesting.
