Steve Grieg is the ultimate animal adoption hero.
Grieg first got on the animal adoption bandwagon after his dog Wolfgang passed away. Grieg then wanted to fill the animal void in his life and went to his local shelter and adopted “the least adoptable senior dog,” shared InspireMore.
After that, Grieg continued to adopt the pets that nobody else seemed to want giving them all a place to call home.
“They’re just wiser animals,” Greig told The Dodo. “You kind of know what you want out of life once you become a certain age. These dogs know who they are and it’s easy to develop a relationship with a person or pet who knows who they are. It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.”
Currently, Greig is housing 10 dogs, a pig named Bikini, two ducks, two pigeons, two chickens, a few cats, a rabbit, and a pond full of koi fish.
“A normal day for me is getting up at 5 a.m. in the morning and making breakfast for all of them, which, you know, there’s 10 [dogs] and most of them have different diets,” he said.
With so many animals, Greig is constantly on his feet making sure that everything is going smoothly.
“Like right now, I’m outside on my patio and it’s a beautiful day,” he told The Dodo. “Bikini’s laying in the yard and the dogs are all laying around the yard. They just make it feel like home. It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.”
