Retail chain Spencer’s has found themselves in hot water over a controversial T-shirt promoting President-elect Donald Trump.
The shirt, shared Sunday on social media by Mary Numair, is emblazoned with the slogan “Grab America By The P*ssy,” a reference to infamous audio leaked during the 2016 campaign where Trump proclaimed to television host Billy Bush that he would grab women “by the p*ssy” — among other lewd statements.
Numair’s post shows the shirt surrounded by other Trump merchandise. While it is unclear if this specific Spencer’s location sold both Clinton or anti-Trump paraphernalia as well, the chain’s website features shirts from across the spectrum in its political section.
The social media reaction to the shirt was swift and severe. Numair wrote that the shirt “normalized” sexual assault. Many people immediately agreed with her.
Her initial Facebook post has acquired over 1,000 likes and 10,000 shares as of January 17. Her corresponding tweet has over 5,000 likes and 4,500 retweets.
Other social media users also spoke out against the garment as well. Many have tied it into anti-Trump sentiments, with some are calling to boycott the chain.
@Spencers I see you promote bigotry and sexual assault on women. The most disgusting thing I’ve seen from you yet. #nottrump

@Spencers isn’t known for being tasteful, but this product is an embarrassment to our nation, as is @realDonaldTrump. #boycottspencers pic.twitter.com/TqXb3uwET8

Others have pointed out that the shirt is insulting to all people — no matter who you voted for.
Whoever you voted for, this isn’t ok. It’s not cute. It’s not witty. It’s assault. Surprised @spencers #spencers pic.twitter.com/GjDGHn0tUR

The shirt is currently no longer listed on Spencer’s website, though it’s unclear whether it has sold out or if it has been pulled.
Your Daily Dish has reached out to Mary Numair for comment.
