Platoon of Young Soldiers Step Up to Help Stranded Woman
Mary Mingo Williams was driving home from work in Savannah, GA, when her car ran out of gas. She had no choice but to get out and try to push the vehicle, as other cars and trucks drove past her indifferently.
Then, Williams received more help than she could have hoped for: A group of soldiers, having seen the trouble she was in, reportedly stepped up to help her.
“I don’t know where they came from, but all of a sudden I had almost a platoon of army men,” she wrote in a Facebook post that has since gone viral.
The soldiers rolled up their sleeves and pushed her car all the way to the nearest gas station. Once there, Williams asked if she could take their picture, so their good deed would not go unnoticed.
“Can I please take your picture to let people know there are still young men in the world that will stop and offer their assistance to a woman in need?” she asked. The soldiers agreed.
But the story doesn’t end there. A man at the gas station offered to reward the men’s kindness with a $100 bill to buy them a meal. However, the soldiers politely declined.
“They all said at the same time ‘No sir, we cannot accept that, we were doing what we were raised to do,’” Williams wrote on Facebook.
Instead, the man filled Williams’ tank with gas and insisted on paying for it.
What could have been a very bad day was transformed into a positive experience by the kindness of strangers, and Williams has expressed her gratitude for all the world to see.
“I thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart,” she wrote on Facebook.
