In the spring of 2013, the city of Boston turned upside down after a homemade bomb exploded during the Boston Marathon. Peter Berg’s latest film, Patriots Day, explores the chaos that unfolded following the events of the bombings and the city-wide manhunt that took place afterwards.
The trailer follows Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) as he patrols the finish line of the marathon just as the bombs go off. As the turmoil and initial shock die down, the story shifts to the manhunt for the bombers and the intense search and investigation that followed.
“We’ve got to find these guys before they do this to someone else,” says Saunders.
Check out the trailer below.
The official synopsis for the film reads:
“In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders, and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.”
John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, Micheal Beach, Melissa Benoist, J.K. Simmons, and Alex Wolff join Wahlberg in the chilling docudrama. This is the third collaboration between Wahlberg and Berg after working together on Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon.
The film is set to close out the AFI Fest in Hollywood on November 17.
Patriots Day hits theaters in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on Dec. 21 and plays nationwide on Jan. 13.
