Mariah Carey Teams With James Corden for Festive Carpool Karaoke
Mariah Carey has teamed with James Corden to surprise fans with a Christmas-themed Carpool Karaoke.
The “Hero” singer appeared in the very first edition of The Late Late Show’s hit celebrity singing segment back in March last year, and made a return to the passenger seat for Thursday night’s episode.
Heading home in a SUV packed full of presents, Corden told the star: “Thank you so much for helping me with my Christmas shopping, just to have a different perspective on what to get.”
In exchange for her help, an “ugly” holiday sweater clad Corden asked the diva what she would like for Christmas.
Carey, who is seen wearing a red Balmain leather jacket zipped low to show off a jeweled bra, could not decide: “I don’t know, I don’t want to ask for something that is too expensive, something too much… I want you to sing my song “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
And the British TV host was happy to oblige, launching into a version of the tune, which was first released in 1994.
But not only did the host sing the iconic track with Carey, but he was joined by a cadre of celebrity guests who have previously appeared with him on the show throughout the year.
Apparently, Corden has had the idea for a mashup since the start of 2016, as the segment featured guests like Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
Elton John, Selena Gomez and even Adele, whose Carpool Karaoke segment aired in January also appeared, with the stars all belting out the catchy tune in never-before-seen clips from their previous car rides.
“Mariah Carey, Merry Christmas,” said Corden at the end of the video, to which she replied, “And a happy happy happy New Year.”
However, there were a few notable guests missing from the mashup – including Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, and Bruno Mars, whose own Carpool Karaoke segment aired on Tuesday.
