Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn Set to Return in ‘Gotham City Sirens’
Margot Robbie is set to team up with Suicide Squad director David Ayer to revamp her Harley Quinn character for a new action movie.
The actress will lead the cast of Gotham City Sirens, which will follow some of the top female villains in the DC Comics franchise, including Catwoman and Poison Ivy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Shortly after Suicide Squad’s release earlier this year, the actress started lobbying for a spin-off movie which would feature her beloved character: “I’m trying to make that happen,” she said during an interview with YouTube series Tipsy Talk. “Not for anything specifically, but just something – there’s so much more to do.”
Robbie then discussed her love of the character, who she views as being simultaneously hyper-feminine and powerfully manipulative. While Harley might be controversial, the 26-year-old feels it’s great that audiences get to see such a multi-faceted female figure on the big screen.
“I feel like I hit the lottery…,” she said. “The chicks never get these roles – we never get the roles where we have the funny one-liners and then the kick-ass action scene, but then also, like, an intricate character with an awesome story arc – you just don’t really get that, like in a big-budget film.”
