After being discharged from the animal hospital, a Golden Retriever battling cancer gets a special ride on a wagon from his owner around town where he’s cherished by the community.
Maverick is 9 years old and faces the deadly disease lymphoma for the second time, but has been responding well to chemotherapy treatment.
His owner, Joey Maxwell, wanted to cheer him up after his return from the hospital, but Maverick couldn’t walk just yet. So, Maxwell went to his local Lowe’s for a wagon, yet they were out of stock due to the Hurricane Matthew aftermath.
After hearing his heartwarming story, Lowe’s tracked down a wagon from their closest store, shipped it and even put it together for Maxwell.
And then he gave his canine best friend the sweetest ride through downtown Deland, FL, accompanied by members of the community who wanted to extend their love to the recovering doggie too.
It was reported on the Everybody Loves Maverick Facebook page that Maverick’s health has stabilized and future wagon rides will definitely happen.
And, if interested in helping Maverick out with his hospital bills, Maxwell set up a GoFundMe, already reaching over $8,000 with a goal of $10,000.
