Everyone has had moments when they’re sleeping snuggly in bed and some noise wakes them up. Was I dreaming? Is someone trying to get in? Is one of the kids sneaking out? You run a gamut of questions in a matter of seconds as your sleepy, groggy brain tries to figure out what the sound was, though we’d bet “Was that a family of wild lynx on my porch?” isn’t normally one of them.
Well, for Tim Newton, that sound actually was a family of wild lynx.
While that may seem strange to some, Newton and his wife live in Anchorage, Alaska, where mountainside property affords them a ton of opportunities to see all kinds of wildlife. According to Newton’s Facebook page, bears and moose have visited them, too.
According to his Facebook post, “Tim was awakened by noises on our deck last week — and looked outside. In astonishment, he grabbed his camera … and can you believe it? Mama Lynx and her SEVEN kits!! … They proceeded to run and play on our deck, and then in our yard!”
Commenters seemed to have quite a lot of fun trying to guess why the mother lynx and her kittens were attracted to the property, with people guessing everything from the lynx “knowing” the couple loved animals to others accusing them of feeding the wild animals. Newton was convinced that the abundance of rabbits on his property drew the predators there.
Hunting or not, no one can deny how adorable, if a bit lanky, these wild cats are. Newton is selling prints, too. Check out more photos below!
He may seem relaxed, but those back legs suggest this kitty is about to pounce on a rabbit!
Hey! No paws on the table!
Looks like they’re taking a break from the frolicking for a bit of quality time. How cute!
After playtime, it seems these baby lynx are getting ready to make a break for it.
