Man Converts School Bus Into Tiny Home On Wheels

Don’t judge a school bus by its cover. That’s the lesson one Seattle man, Patrick Schmidt, is sharing with the world. He’s been living and traveling across the country in a 1990 school bus he nicknamed “Big Blue.”
But Big Blue isn’t the average run-of-the-mill school bus. Purchased from a church back in March for just $4,500, Schmidt, 29, and his father spent 4 months converting the bus into a livable and lovable house on wheels, which cost around $8,500. Schmidt quit his job as an airport employee and decided to give “tiny living” a try. Something he definitely does not regret.
From a kitchen area with a sink and fridge, to a working bathroom with hot and cold water, to a queen size bed, Big Blue has all the comforts of home. Big Blue also features wood floors, air conditioning, solar panels on the roof, and mood lighting.
Schmidt has traveled in his beloved bus from California to Florida, covering over 10,000 miles and visiting 30 states. And he has no plans to go back to his former 9-5 life. He plans to stay in Florida for the duration of the winter before heading back West. He recently told Good Morning America, “I want to live smaller, and have as positive of an impact on this world as possible. I want to consume less, waste less, and live more.”
Schmidt adds that he might look to rent out Big Blue as a tiny bed-and-breakfast on wheels once he returns home. Seems like it might be a cozy night’s sleep.
