Lil Wayne and Karen Civil Give 500 Haitian Children a Christmas to Remember
Last Friday, music superstar Lil Wayne and social media entrepreneur Karen Civil teamed up to create a memorable holiday for 500 Haitian children.
Dubbing the event the Live Civil Christmas Giveaway, the two teamed up to provide each of the 500 kids with a custom ensemble from Wayne’s Truckfit clothing line and an exclusive cap from Civil’s collaboration with New Era. In addition, pro-boxer Andre Berto (who is of Haitian descent) dressed as Santa Claus and surprised the children by passing out presents.
While the clothing and gifts were most welcomed by the children, the event also featured an educational component.
The Scholastic Corporation donated a new book to each of the 500 children. In addition, Civil, a first generation Haitian-American, gave a reading of her book Be You & Live Civil.
Speaking on the impact the event could have on the children, Lil Wayne said, “A lot of people tend to forget about those who are less fortunate during the holiday season, not many understand how receiving just one item could bring so much joy to a child’s life, especially if they don’t have the same everyday luxuries that the more fortunate tend to overlook. I’m just grateful to be able to give back to Haiti in any way possible.”
Civil added, “The Live Civil initiative in Haiti is something that brings me joy! Being able to put a smile on the kids’ faces during the holidays is a gift within itself.”
