Leonardo DiCaprio Slept In Animal Carcasses, Ate Raw Bison Meat For ‘Revenant’ Film
Seriously, if Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t win an Oscar for The Revenant, he never will.
DiCaprio revealed in an interview with Yahoo Movies, that to prepare for his role as 1820’s frontiersman Hugh Glass, he camped in freezing temperatures in the wilderness, slept inside animal carcasses, ate raw bison, and swam in frozen rivers.
“I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do” said DiCaprio. “Whether it’s going in and out of frozen rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly.”
“I certainly don’t eat raw bison liver on a regular basis. When you see the movie, you’ll see my reaction to it… It says it all. It was an instinctive reaction,” the acclaimed actor added.
The shoot was reportedly incredibly difficult for everyone involved, taking place in cold, remote areas of Canada and Argentina. Several crewmembers left during the shoot.
DiCaprio said the film changed him, and he hopes audiences too.
“It’s going to be one of the most unique film-going experiences that audiences have seen in modern times. … It’s epic poetry, an existential journey through nature, and [Hugh Glass] finding a will to live against all odds. Yet he changes, nature changes him and I think those elements changed him while we were doing the movie.”
Early rumors suggest this time around, DiCaprio will finally bring home the coveted Academy Award for Best Actor. And we’re really hoping he does, although a small part of us doesn’t want the memes to end.
