It took five nominations, but Leonardo DiCaprio finally got his well-deserved Oscar.
DiCaprio’s lack of winnings has become one of the longest running jokes in the entertainment world. The Revenant star has previously been nominated for his work in The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, yet the Academy has failed to acknowledge those incredible performances… until last night.
Last night during the 88th Academy Awards, the 41-year-old actor was finally able to walk away with the coveted prize. Before heading to the after parties, DiCaprio took his Oscar to the engraving station to make it official.
While watching the etcher carve the nameplate during the Governor’s Ball, DiCaprio could barely hide his anticipation and excitement. The combination of all of the emotions must have gotten to him, so he started to make some small talk.

“Do you do this every year? I wouldn’t know,” DiCaprio joked to the etcher, making the ultimate Oscar joke about himself.
It looks like the climate change activist had that one prepared for a while.
The etcher also handed DiCaprio a little pamphlet that showed him how to care for the award. Upon receiving that information he humorously asked, “I have to maintain it?”
It seems like a small price to pay for the hard-earned award. Congrats, Leo!
