In the wake of the horrific murders of three police officers in Baton Rouge on July 17, a plea for peace from slain officer Montrell Jackson has gone viral.
This message was eerily penned on July 8, just over a week before Jackson was senselessly gunned down with fellow officer Matthew Gerald and Deputy Brad Garafola. The Facebook post was shared via a screenshot and has not been made public until now.
The post heartbreakingly says, “These are trying times. Please don’t let hate infect your heart. This city MUST (sic) and WILL get better. I’m working in these streets so any protesters, officers, friends, family, or whoever, if you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer. I got you.”
Jackson, who was on the force for a decade, was touted as a hero, as Distractify reported he once ran into a burning building to save a toddler.
On a GoFundMe account set up for the fallen officer by a relative, he is described as a hero in a “time of uncertainty and imminent danger.” The outpouring of donations have already reached $58,941 of their $100k goal (at the time of publication).
Jackson, who is survived by his wife and son, recently became a father for the first time in April. He is seen below holding his 4 month-old son, Mason. A tribute page has been set up on Facebook with a cover photo of Jackson’s son.
