Dedicated Daughter Saves Her Father’s Bakery After Tweet, Video Go Viral
After Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area devastatingly hard in 2017, Trinidad Garza’s business — located on Hogan Street in the major Texas city — was left struggling. With not much of a choice as to how to proceed, he decided that it was in his best interest to sell his beloved shop, La Casa Bakery. Before he made that painful move, though, his daughter used the power of social media to save the bakery — and her father’s livelihood.
Jackie Garza took to Twitter and posted a video of her father making pan dulce by hand. Her caption above the one-minute video read, “HEY YALL MY DAD HAS A LITTLE PANADERIA/ RESTAURANT. HE MAKES ALL OF THE PAN DULCE HIMSELF. HE BEEN THINKING ABOUT CLOSING BUT I CANT LET THAT HAPPEN, SPRED THE WORD 1 RT COULD BRING IN A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER! LA CASA BAKERY AND CAFE 1002 HOGAN STREET 77009!!”
The video and tweet struck a chord and went viral. Since the video was posted in December 2017, it has been retweeted nearly 65,000 times, and has been viewed an astonishing 1.7 million times. The increased attention has directly translated to financial success, and business is flourishing: La Casa Bakery sells out its goods pretty much every day. As you can imagine, Trinidad Garza is no longer looking to sell his bustling bakery.
