Viral Facebook Post Shows How a Kind Stranger Helped a Mother in a Moment of Need
Sometimes it is okay to cry over spilled milk. Just ask Kristin Sherman.
Sherman was on the brink of tears during her grocery shopping trip on New Year’s Eve. Her boys were very tired and she didn’t expect to make it out of the store without a meltdown from one of them.
While placing the groceries in the car, Sherman managed to drop an entire gallon of milk which then “splattered all over the ground.”
“Now the milk I needed was splattered on the ground,” Sherman wrote on Facebook. “It doesn’t seem like a huge deal until you find yourself with two tired kids buckled in their seats, one crying, parked almost at the end of the parking lot because it’s NYE. Who shops on NYE with kids, LOL.”
Luckily for Sherman, a woman nearby saw what had just happened and offered to run back into the store for her to purchase a new gallon of milk.
“A woman got out and said ‘I’m so sorry you spilled your milk. I’m a grandma I know how that is. Please let me go in and get you another one,’” Sherman wrote on Facebook. “I said no that’s ok. I couldn’t possibly make this ‘grandma’ do that for me.”
Sherman continued, “She insisted. I finally agreed because I knew the boys needed their milk tonight. She told me to wait and she would be right back.”
When the kind stranger returned from the store, she gave Sherman the gallon of milk and refused to take any cash for the sweet gesture. Along with the milk, the “grandma” also purchased an additional gallon and a gift card to the supermarket.
“I waited and she came back. I offered to pay her. She wouldn’t accept it,” Sherman wrote. “She has no idea what her act of kindness did for me. I was feeling exhausted and defeated for the most part this week and this stranger’s random act of kindness made me cry like a baby.”
Sherman’s Facebook post was reposted by popular Facebook page, Love What Matters. The post was quick to go viral with over 69,000 likes and 11,000 shares.
Many Facebook users were quick to comment on the good deed, sharing how kind the story is.
“She had to make you happy because we’re not supposed to cry over spilt milk. Love this. Super Beautiful,” one user wrote.
“What a wonderful story, so glad the lady helped you out. I think we are going to be seeing more kindness in the coming year,” wrote another.
The act of kindness gave Sherman hope for the new year and she hopes that this post will inspire others.
“I am just an ordinary person that was on the receiving end of an amazing act of kindness,” Sherman told Your Daily Dish via Facebook. “My mission when I shared my story was that the ‘grandma’ who helped me in a moment of mommy weakness could see my gratefulness and to show others there is hope in humanity. We have a tendency to focus on all the hate in the world instead of the good that’s still here!”
Sherman was able to find the “grandma” through her viral post and was able to thank her.
“I accomplished my mission, the ‘grandma’ who I admire for her kindness has read my post and I was able to personally express my gratitude to her again,” Sherman told Your Daily Dish. “I hope that from reading my little ordinary story, that we all can be on lookout for ordinary people to show our kindness too, myself included. Less hate, more love!”
The reaction to the post has overwhelmed Sherman as she “never dreamed it would leave such an impact on so many hearts.”
