The Kardashians might have some adorable competition on the reality show landscape… from cats? That’s right, Keeping Up With the Kardashians has to watch out for Keeping Up With the Kattarshians.
The new Icelandic series, which is available on the Nutiminn streaming service, follows four kittens (Guðni, Ronja, Bríet, and Stubbur) who’ve been rescued from local animal shelters, and move into a fully furnished “cat” house.
The four cats play, live, and sleep together in the home, all the while being documented by hidden cameras in the style of Big Brother.
In interview with Broadly, producer Inga Lind Karlsdóttir spoke about the origin of the Keeping Up With the Kattarshians concept.
“It was a cute idea from a colleague of mine, Þórhallur Gunnarsson. One day he said to me he really wanted to do a show involving cats living in a little house. Everyone else started laughing, but I said, ‘Let’s do this.’ I have my own TV production company, so we decided to work on it together.”
Unlike Kim and Kourtney, the rest the cast of Keeping Up With the Kattarshians will rotate according to Karlsdóttir. She further elaborated to Broadly on what what has happened to the four cats, and how the show will continue without them.
“All four cats now have been adopted, so we’re going to be putting a new litter in here in the coming days — probably next week. We’ll fix up the house, put another camera or so in there, and then have more orphan kittens ready to move in.”
